Saratoga County resident Troy Tenace, age 33, of the Town of Ballston, was found guilty of multiple violent felonies Tuesday, Oct. 18, following a five-day jury trial in Saratoga County Court.
The attack happened at Tenace’s Sherwood Lane home on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021.
Prosecutors said it began when he got into an altercation with a woman he knew, obstructing her breathing. He then refused to let the victim leave.
When she called her family members to come help her escape, Tenace attacked one of them with a shovel, according to investigators.
He first struck the victim in the back of his head, knocking the man to the ground.
Tenace then continued assaulting the second victim as he lay unconscious, prosecutors argued.
The devastating blows left the victim with multiple serious injuries, including a skull fracture, bleeding on the brain, and traumatic brain injury, according to investigators.
Tenace was found guilty of felony first-degree assault, two counts of felony second-degree assault, and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a misdemeanor.
Following Tuesday’s conviction, Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said both victims demonstrated strength and courage in telling the jury about Tenace’s “vicious” attack.
“To this day, the victim of the violent first-degree assault continues to live with the effects of the injuries he suffered at the hands of the defendant,” Heggen said in a statement.
Tenace now faces more than 25 years in prison when he’s sentenced on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
